Tony Koch is the Chief Reporter in Queensland for The Australian newspaper, with special interest in politics, Aboriginal Australia and social justice issues.
He is the 2006 Graham Perkin Australian Journalist of the Year, and in a career spanning 30 years has also won the Walkley Award five times.
In September 2008 Tony won four categories at the Queensland Media Awards, including Queensland Journalist of the Year.
Early in his career he won the Dalgety Australia award three times for reporting on rural issues.
On October 31, 2008 Tony won the Sir Keith Murdoch News Limited Award - the top News Award in Australia - for his reporting on two rape incidents in Cape York - one of a 10-year old girl, and the other of a nurse on Mabuiag Island in the Torres Strait.
In November, 2008 Tony also won his fifth Walkley Award for the best news story category for his reports with Paddy Murphy on the rape of a 10-year old girl at Aurukun.
